I love Dorian, but Necromancer is not particularly strong. I made him a Fire Mage first and foremost; that part is effective. The specialization, not so much. Definitely K-E is strong AF. I don't like difficult or fiddly combat, so I never regretted my specialization there.
All of them are fun. Necromancer is arguably the weakest one, but its totally viable. Rift Mage letsyou apply debuffs and do combos and pretty much be a perma caster. Basically you hit hard and frequently.
